In December 2023 I had what now appears to have been a brain seizure. This was followed some months later by three TIAs (mini strokes). Then I had a stroke and after superb diagnosis at Christchurch Hospital I was admitted to Burwood Hospital unable to stand or walk. I had another brain seizure six weeks after my stroke.
Ten minutes after I arrived at Burwood Hospital a physio appeared at my bedside and encouraged me to stand up. He supplied a walking frame, and I commenced the journey to restore my ability to walk and be a functioning member of society again.
The stroke ward at Burwood Hospital in Christchurch is an impressively egalitarian place. I will not mention anybody’s name as I’m sure to miss somebody important out. Suffice to say that the teamwork by everybody in the ward was impressive. Without this style of collaborative working, rehabilitation would be much more difficult. Read more
