Psychologists call this the “next-in-line effect” and we’ve all done it. Forgetting a name seconds after an introduction is known as the next-in-line effect.
It occurs because your brain’s attention is divided; you are often preoccupied with managing your own body language, eye contact, or rehearsing what you are going to say next. Consequently, the name is never properly encoded into your memory.
If you want to remember the name, you need to attach some significance to it.
